Happy and Safe Valentines Day

Valentine's Day is a day for love.  Traditionally, we humans give candy and flowers to our dear ones.  What many pet owners don't know is that lilies can be highly toxic to cats.  Many of our feline friends are very curious, so if you receive an arrangement with lilies, you may want to remove them.  Also don't let pets near roses or other thorny stemmed flowers. Biting, stepping on or swallowing thorns can cause serious infection if a puncture occurs.

Most of us already know that chocolate is toxic and potentially life threatening to our pets.   But did you know that gum, candy and other treats sweetened with xylitol are also?  If ingested, it could cause your pet to suffer depression, loss of coordination and seizures.

Each year poison control experts see a rise in cases around February 14, many involving chocolate and lilies.  Let's not be one of them and leave these things out of paws reach!

Have a wonderful Valentines day!  Give all your furry babies a kiss on the nose on 2/14/12!
